As far as we can make out the third ring of text from the centre appears to be a list of countries.<\/p>\n<p>Some reports date the sundial to 1826.<\/p>\n<p>According to <a title=\"Historic Scotland\" href=\"http:\/\/hsewsf.sedsh.gov.uk\/hslive\/hsstart?P_HBNUM=10365\" target=\"_blank\">Historic Scotland<\/a> the Sundial is inscribed &#8220;Robert Palmer fecit, 1826&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>It is a slate dial \u00a0with bronze gnomon raised on fluted red ashlar column with\u00a0plinth.<\/p>\n<p>It was given Grade &#8216;C&#8217; listing in 1986.<\/p>\n<p>Little is known about the history of this sundial except that a <a title=\"Robert Palmer, Schoolteacher\" href=\"http:\/\/ads.ahds.ac.uk\/catalogue\/adsdata\/PSAS_2002\/pdf\/vol_024\/24_161_281.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">Robert Palmer, a schoolm<\/a>aster, is attributed to making sundials in Currie (1836) and Riccarton (1829).
