Built in 1887 by a local stone mason Annan Town Hall is an imposing building commanding the town centre.

John Graham was the local mason who created this building to replace a building built in 1723.

Annan Town Hall

A building of some sort has been on this site from at least the 16th century.

The clock was gifted to the town in 1900 as Chalmers request.

Below the clock is a recently installed statue of Robert the Bruce.

The plinth for the statue was installed when the building was built however it took until 2010 for the statue to be installed.

The statue cost £43,000 with money raised by the Annan Bruce Heritage Project.

Palace clock – Manchester

Known now as the Palace Hotel this Manchester landmark is one of the first things you see as you exit the Oxford Road train station.

The ornate red building stands at the corner of Oxford Street and Whitworth Street.

The building is Grade II listed.

Originally built for the Refuge Assurance Company in 1890 with design by Alfred Waterhouse.  Alfred was also know for his design work on the  Town Hall in Manchester and the Natural History Museum in London.

The clock tower was part of the second phase of building and stands 217ft tall.  This phase of work, known as building Number 2, was designed by Paul, Alfred Waterhouses’ son.

The refuge continued to occupy building number 1 until 1989 when it was purchased by Principle Hotels.  Over the next few years the hotel spread in to buildings 2 and 3.

The hotel now offers over 250 rooms and is rated as 4 star.

Padiham Town Hall

Dating from 1888 the town hall in Padiham was built of Yorkshire stone in the classical Renaissance style.

Key features include the imposing clock tower topped by a copper dome with a small cupola, the mosaic floors and the ornate ceiling of the council chamber.

Garstang is a small town just outside of Lancaster in Lancashire.

Excellent communications links, The Lancaster canal, the River Wyre and more recently the nearby M6 have all helped the prosperity of this market town with a population of around 5000.

The town hall, was rebuilt in 1754 It was topped with a timber cupola with a clock.

A fire in 1938 destroyed the roof, bell tower and clock, which in due course were replaced.

The Town Hall clock had major repairs in 2005-6 at a cost of £16,505.
