The Old Town Hall in the centre of Carlisle features a clock high in a cupola above the building.

A number of stories exist as to why it has 3 clock faces.

One legend suggests that it is not showing the time towards Scotland as a way of saying that the City ‘ does not have the time for Scotland’

No evidence has so far been found to confirm if the clock originally had 4 faces and one has been removed.
