Work to restore a Gillett and Brand clock at to Lowther Castle near Penrith, Cumbria has started.

Installed in 1877 by famous clock makers Gillett and Brand, it has kept time in the stable courtyard for generations of grooms and stable hands.

Jutting about 1m (3ft) from a red sandstone building in Penrith, Cumbria is our latest clock.

Looking up and down Victoria Road in Penrith is this clock on the Richardsons Funeral Directors building.

This is the first time we have seen a clock on a funeral directors and in some ways is quite apt. Let us know what you think via the comments section below.

Written just below the centre of the clock is the text ‘Established 1852′.

Richardsons Funeral Directors

For over 150 years the family owned business in Penrith has been arranging funerals for the local populous.

Historically many funeral directors have connections to timber or wood.  Often joiners or carpenters were also the local funeral directors.  In the case of Richardsons they also operate a timber merchants on Roper Street in the town.

Situated by the side of the busy A66 just outside Penrith in Cumbria, is a stone tower known as the Countess Pillar.

Standing around 4m tall and  on a small hill beside the busy road, this memorial will go un-noticed by many passing motorists heading towards the M6.

The Countess Pillar marks the place nearby where Lady Anne Clifford, Countess of Dorset, bade farewell to her mother Margaret on 2 April 1616, at the gateway to Brougham Castle.

Brougham Castle is around 1km from the site of the Pillar.

On top of the pillar are three sundials and an inscription.

St Andrew’s Church, Penrith, Cumbria.

At the heart of Penrith, Cumbria is St Andrew’s Church.

The clock tower features gold numerals and hands on a dark background.

It is thought that the tower  dates back to the 1300′s

William Porthouse was in charge of looking after the clock for 25 years from 1740 to 1765. In 1763 he supervised the hanging of new bells.

Situated at the centre of Penrith in North Cumbria is the clock tower commemorating the death of Philip Musgrave of Eden Hall.
