Work to restore a Gillett and Brand clock at to Lowther Castle near Penrith, Cumbria has started.

Blackburn Cathedral, is officially known as the Cathedral Church of Blackburn Saint Mary the Virgin.

It is situated in the heart of Blackburn town centre in Lancashire.
The Cathedral has a ring of ten bells, cast by Messrs John Taylor of Loughbrough in 1949 and considered by many ringers to be amongst the top dozen or so from a total of two hundred and fifty similar rings.
Fifty steps lead from the ground floor to the belfry.

In 1883 Connards jewellers was opened by Walter Connard.
His son Charles came into the firm, followed by Martin and now his great grandson Andrew now represents the fourth generation.

This very large clock is mounted on to the front of the market hall in Ormskirk, Lancashire.

A stallholder tells of a story where a bird, like a cuckoo, used to pop out from above the clock to tell of the new hour.
Sadly this clock has not worked for many years.
Update – 11 May 2011
Clive has been in touch, he said: - The clock used to work and I was asked by the proprietors to make the Cuckoo bit (including the doors) work. This was probably in the 80′s. The mechanics were OK and it was a matter of making microswitches and relays to control the mechanism. It was very successful for years.

Positioned above the public toilets at Ormskirk bus depot is this simple black and white clock.

Often unnoticed by many visitors, this clock is thought to be electrically powered.
Ormskirk bus depot is positioned just off Moor Street / A577.
Buses travel in a clockwise direction around a loop road, with a car park at the centre.

Ormskirk Market is one of the country’s oldest and most traditional street markets in Britain.
The market is open for business each Thursday and Saturday from 8.00am-4.30pm during March to October and 8.00am-4.00pm November to February.
The market dates back to 1286 when the monks at nearby Burscough Priory were granted a Royal Charter by Edward I to hold a weekly outdoor market.

With around 100 stalls, set in the pedestrianised area in the heart of the town around the famous Clock Tower, the market attracts hundreds of bargain hunters each market day.
Ormskirk’s Clock Tower was built in 1876.
It is a Grade II listed building and with its Victorian “gothic” style – nationally recognized as being of special architectural and historic value.
A plaque on the tower reads -
Erected by the Earl of Derby’s court Leet assisted by contributions in the town and neighbourhood 1876. Robert Wareing Steward of the Mayor.
The town was governed by the court-leet, which held its meetings in the old town hall in Church Street.
The market cross of Ormskirk stood on the site of the present clock tower.
